Mini Notebook CD
This tutorial is about how to set Mini Notebook with a virtual CD or DVD.
Deciding between a mini-notebook and a much heavier notebook could be quite a task.I am sure readers out there are concerned that going for a mini-notebook without a CD/DVD drive would stop us from enjoying the flexible features of the modern machine such as watching a movie on a long journey.
The mini-notebooks these days usually don’t come with a CD/DVD driver. I did fear that I would miss that feature. However, I went ahead with the HP mininote 2133 powered by a VIA processor and I must say, it was really the right choice.
Now, I can watch my favourite DVDs with a virtual CD/DVD driver. Before proceeding, I must say that HP mininote 2133 is worth putting money on. It delivers a lot more than an iPhone or any other mini-notebook available in the market.
The portability of a mini-notebook definitely helps us to do multiple things at a time. Right now, I am blogging while preparing a delicious chicken roast in my messed-up kitchen. I should say my HP mini note has become my helping hand in the kitchen.
Well, let’s get back to how to install a virtual CD/DVD on a mini-notebook.
The Virtual CD/DVD driver known as optical media emulation software allows you to burn your CD/DVD discs at ease though it is not an actual CD-ROM or DVD-ROM. Since my HP mininote 2133 comes with a hefty 120 GB SATA hard drive, I can enjoy the wide space to store quite a number of DVDs. Moreover, Virtual CD can be faster than real physical drive at the speed of 200X.
You can even run CD or DVD image files like ISO, BIN, DDA and UIF with the help of the software. I use the software to watch my backup DVD image file on my mini-notebook without burning the image into the real disc. It will run much faster than the real disc, and save more power from your battery. It also saves both your money and space by eliminating the need to buy DVD/CD discs.
You can download a version of software and see if it makes your mini-notebook experience much richer.
Here are some of my step-by-step pointers on how to go about downloading and using a virtual CD/DVD driver.
Step 1
Go to http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/download.php and download and install free Daemon software. You will find different versions of the software. Choose any of them. I have chosen DAEMON Tools Lite v4.30.4 32/64 Bits (with SPTD 1.58) as they support my operating system.

Step 2
Search for a DVD or CD image file to test the software. If you don’t have any image file, you can back up with any DVD lying in your DVD rack at home to an ISO image.
Step 3
Once the installation is done, you will see an icon in the windows tool bar. Now, right-click the icon. A window will pop up. Move your cursor to ‘virtual CD/DVD ROM’, and the other option window will pop up.
You will find ‘device 0: ...’ option in the new pop-up window. Move your cursor to ‘device 0’ again, and then a new window will appear with an option ‘mount image’. Click ‘mount image’, and find the image file you want to run.
Daemon-Tool supports most of the image file formats. But for the ones such as UIF that they don’t support, you need a small program UIF2ISO to mount the file. It comes free.
So,transfer UIF to ISO to mount the image into DAEMON-TOOL
Step 4
Now, you can enjoy watching Slumdog Millonaire not in drawing room but in your kitchen.
So, Keep Watching.............

JVC Mini Notebook
The JVC MP-XV841US Mini-Notebook Reviews:
Here are some notes on the only non-IBM notebook computer I've ever owned - the JVC MP-XV841US. It's a mini-notebook, and as you can see in the picture it's really tiny (and light - weighs 3 1/4 pounds with the battery attached). I prefer smaller notebooks because I seem to carry my notebook around everywhere and those 15 pounders with 17" screens are too much of a pain in the butt to lug around and work on while I'm having lunch.
Since I've gotten used to IBM notebooks, I prefer the JVC's setup of a trackpoint and three mouse buttons to touchpads. When working at a desk, I often attach a small USB mouse (Targus Optical Scroller Mini Mouse) to the laptop, as it makes working easier.
System specifications
Model MP-XV841US
Processor Intel Pentium M at 1 GHz
Hard Disk 40GB (hdparm gives transfer rates of about 25 MB/sec)
Memory 256 MB standard / 768 MB maximum
Video Card Intel Corp. 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics
Audio Intel Corp. 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC'97 Audio Controller
Ethernet Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+
Modem Conexant Winmodem
Wireless Intel Corp. PRO/Wireless 2200BG
Linux hardware support
Video XFree86 / XOrg i810 driver (3D support works)
Audio ALSA: supported with snd_intel8x0 module.
Ethernet 8139too module
Modem Linuxant commercial drivers (hsfmodem)
SD Media reader Does not work in Linux. No drivers. (If anyone can get this to work in Linux, let me know so I can update this page.
Wireless ipw2200 driver, requires firmware download. Get it from freshrpms.net.
Firewire Untested. I don't have any Firewire devices
The hardware in the JVC Mini is, for the most part, well-supported in Linux. Everything I use regularly appears to work, though you must purchase a (payware) driver to use the modem at 56K. For free, you can only use the modem at 14.4K speeds.
The only thing that simply does not work at all in Linux is the SD media reader. It's no big deal to me, since all my digital cameras uss compact flash cards. I borrowed an SD card for a few minutes just to try the SD reader, and it was a no-go.
